Each day scientists and doctors gain new and valuable information about diabetes and its causes. The causes of this disease have been unknown to us until recently. We know now that in addition to genetic and non controllable situations that enviromental factors also contribute to this disease. Your age is a major factor in whether you will develop diabetes. Sadly, there is no way for you to control this factor. There is nothing to be done about getting older. What you can control, however, is how healthy you stay as you age. Most people with type 1 diabetes will develop it earlier in life. IType 2 diabetes can be staved off by leading a healthy lifestyle even as you get older. Leading an extremely stressful life can also cause you to develop diabetes. Scary but true. Being under stress continually increases your risk of developing diabetes. What can you do about this? Remember to relax and unwind. You can also talk to your doctor for tips on dealing the stress in your life. Just as there are many causes of stress, there are many ways to relieve it. Lowering your stress level will also lower your risk of type 2 diabetes.
We've known for a long time that people who are overweight or obese are more likely to contract diabetes. There have been more and more developments in treatment options for diabetes prevention related weight loss. Getting your weight under control can be achieved if we work at it. Many succeed with only modifying their diet and excercise. Some may consider surgical intervention for weight loss that is not easily controlled. Talk to your doctor about the best way to get your weight under control if you want to avoid diabetes. Most cases of diabetes can be avoided. Type 1 diabetes isn't as easy to fend off because it depends on genetics, ethnicity and other uncontrollable factors. Because the factors of type 2 diabetes are more environmental, we are better able to avoid it. Let your doctor know if you feel you might be at risk for either type of diabetes. By talking to them, they will be better able to help you avoid this disease altogether.
